ECC Field strength to RSRP

dbuv/m/5MHz to RSRP Conversion

In many countries, the ECC recommendations are followed to understand what is the interference threshold which should be acceptable between operators using specific combination of FDD/FDD, TDD/FDD, FDD/TDD combinations in the same bands.

The ECC limits are usually identified in dB microvolts per meter per 5MHz spectrum. This tool will allow you to convert this into RSRP from 4G or 5G.

The caveat is that beam-forming has a different effect and this calculator will provide stricter values (as if assuming the whole spectrum is interfered by the intensity which is only in the 20 RBs of 5G SSB)

Some common recommendations from ECC REC(15)01 are

  • 758-788MHz : 59dbuv/m/5MHz at country borders at 3m height
  • 3400-3800MHz : 32dbuv/m/5MHz at country borders for unsynchronized TDD networks
  • 3400-3800MHz : 67dbuv/m/5MHz at country borders for synchronized TDD networks

\begin{equation} \begin{split} RSRP_{estimate} = ECC_{dbuvPer5MH} + 10 Log_{10}(Bandwidth_{MHZ} / 5) - \\ 10 Log_{10}(NumberOfSubcarriers) + ReceiverGain_{dBi} - \\ 20 Log_{10}(FrequencyInMHz) - ReceiverCableLoss_{dB} - \\ PolarizationDiscriminization - 77.23 \end{split} \end{equation}
